5-11: I already know your names.
I inadvertently made Bjorn super hot. Oops.
Also I have a little announcement: I set up a Society6 store. As of this writing there’s only one design but I’m planning to add more as time allows. I’ll probably be taking down the spreadshirt store at some point, so if you want something from there now might be a good time to grab it.
Edit: Okay apparently the name “Svein” sounds unpleasant in Swedish? I’m gonna retcon while it’s still pretty easy to do and change the spelling of his name to “Sven” while it’s still easy to do. I’m just gonna blame this on my not understanding nuances in languages I don’t speak.
There is no “e” in “Svin”! ;-)
But his name isn\’t Svin?
Svin means swine and svein can sorta be pronounced like swine when one speaks english. I think it was a joke. :)
So Svein is norwegian?
Also “firestarter” my brain just thought: pokemon! and now I can’t stop imagining Nicole as a pokemon. Next time I use a fire starter I’ll have to name it after her.
So everyone in the band is supernatural? Will we find out what they are? Is Sabine a vampire?
I have too many questions, sorry! >_<
They are super natural creatures of some description. We\’ll find out their deal in the comic pretty soon.
Technically all three of them are from Sweden but their species tends not to care much about human-drawn borders.
“Svin means swine and svein can sorta be pronounced like swine when one speaks english. I think it was a joke. :)”
Actually, it was a joking reversal of “There is no ‘i’ in ‘Sven’.” Who the heck would name their kid “Svein” anyway?! His parents might as well have tattooed “Tease me about my name” on his forehead when he was born. (Unless it’s his professional name, then I gotta ask “WTF, dude?!”)
Okay now I\’m really worried I should have given him a different name if it sounds so terrible?
It\’s not like I made up that spelling though. I got it from a list of old Scandinavian names.
(Replying in my own post because it won’t nest after Kytri’s.)
“Okay now I\’m really worried I should have given him a different name if it sounds so terrible?”
Not terrible, just a bit odd. I know a little bit of German and was pronouncing it in my head as “Svine”. (In German, the second vowel gets emphasized pronunciation.)
“It\’s not like I made up that spelling though. I got it from a list of old Scandinavian names.”
It may very well still be pronounced as “Sven” in modern Scandinavian languages, but it still looks rather strange to me. (There are a lot of very old names that have survived into the 21st Century that parents might want to cross off their “Imma-name-my-next-kid-this-because-it-sounds-so-cool!” list for the sake of their child’s sanity and/or playground survival. “Svein” is probably one of those…)
Aaaaaa I’m so excited that Sabine and Svein have showed up again! When I was first finding your work I really liked them in the Rift. :) I feel like Bjorn is an overhaul of someone from it too, but I can’t figure out who.
Ahh thanks! I\’ve been looking forward to getting them into the story for a while.
you should have an art book someday and call it “accidental swarthy pretty men: a retrospective.”
Is it wrong of me that I assume they sound like Ahnold?
