…I can’t tell whether Sabine is telling Sven to ask out Ian because they don’t think Sven could poison Ian, or because they ship them together or something XD Either one amuses me.
I believe it was asking Ian about what gift could please Nicole.
And i also believe you knew that and were being facetious.

If it were just saying to ask Ian what a good gift would be, I would have thought it would just say “ask the changeling.” “Ask out” is a specific verb phrase that usually indicates asking someone to date you. Or at least that’s how it struck me.
hmm possible hinting that sven is either bisexual or not one for monogamous relationships, shall be intresting to see where this goes.
Wow, I read it as ‘don’t goof up and accidentally ask out Ian in your goofy fits of goofiness’. Shows what I know.
Am I the only one to only read “ask out the changeling” as asking what would please Nicole (as a gift) to one of her confirmed friend?
(another possibility which just came to e now : Sabine call an changeling, she might believe he often take Nicole form for reasons, and that Sven may ask out the bad one ?)
