i’m assuming at this point they have special eyes that see colors differently and don’t understand they look garish to others.

Actually, I think that he looks better without the braids…but frankly the bow is going a bit overboard. (A string — or at least a thinner ribbon — or a rubberband would better serve the purpose of keeping his hair out of the way without accentuating his externally perceived femininity.)

Let’s just say that I find it kind of ironic that Nami complains that Humans are “obsessed” about gender — and then accessorizes his hair with something that will probably serve to confuse people about his gender. Mixed message, anyone?
She probably gave him the bow because she isn’t the one obsessed with gender and thought it looked nice. Well, in my opinion anyway. That doesn’t seem ironic to me

Er, then why would she suggest he change it at all when she brought it up because of what humans would think? To humans, it won’t look any less feminine with a big bow in it.
I think Nami might just not have the best grasp of humans and their obsession with gender either, given that she doesn’t shave her armpits.
